If you think you or someone you know has experienced honour-based abuse, there is a variety of support options available to both students and staff. 

Internal:

  • Report + Support: Students and staff can disclose how they have been affected by honour-based abuse using the University’s Report + Support system. You can choose to do this anonymously, request support from an advisor or make a referral for someone else. If you choose to talk to an advisor, they will be able to talk through the reporting options and support available to you, in confidence.
  • Student Wellbeing Services: From confidential one-to-one counselling to motivational and self-development group workshops, the Student Wellbeing Service is here to help and support you.
  • Spectrum.Life – our Student Assistance Programme: SAP is a confidential in the moment support service that provides support to university students. The SAP service is available 24/7, 365 days a year covering numerous topics such as: Stress, Anxiety, Low mood, Financial worries, Loss & Grief, Relationship problems, Substance abuse issues and much more. You can access through a confidential, freephone telephone line, an online chat function through the platform or by requesting a call back.
  • Students' Union: The Greenwich Students' Union (GSU) is independent from the above support services within the university. If you wish to speak to an advisor about an issue related to hate incident/crime, please contact the GSU Advice Team.

External:

  • Karma Nirvana: The Honour Network helpline provides emotional and practical support and advice for victims and survivors (male and female) of FM and/or HBV and abuse. It provides advice and support to potential victims, victims in crisis and professional agencies. 0800 5999 247
  • Men's Advice Line: This service provides a freephone confidential helpline for all men experiencing domestic violence by a current or ex-partner. This includes all men - in heterosexual or same-sex relationships. The service gives men the chance to talk about what is happening to them and provides them with emotional support and practical advice. The advice line also has information about specialist services that can provide advice on legal, housing, child contact, mental health and other issues 0808 801 0327. The Helpline is open Monday to Friday 10am - 1pm and 2pm - 5pm.
  • Southall Black Sisters: This service is a ‘by and for’ Black, minoritised, and migrant women’s organisation addressing domestic abuse and other forms of violence against women and girls (VAWG). SBS provides community-based services including helpline advice services, advocacy, counselling, and peer support group work. SBS provides holistic support, combining crisis intervention services with long-term advocacy and campaigning. Helpline 020 8571 0800 (open weekdays 10am - 4pm).
  • Halo Project Charity: This is a national project that will support victims of HBV, FM and FGM by providing appropriate advice and support to victims. We will also work with key partners to provide required interventions and advice necessary for the protection and safety of victims. 01642 683045
  • Freedom Charity: A UK-based charity formed to give support to victims of FM, FGM, radicalisation and violence upon women thought to have brought dishonour on their family. 0845 607 0133
  • IKWRO (Iranian and Kurdish Women's Rights Organisation): Provides specialist support for Middle Eastern, North African (MENA) and Afghan women and girls living in the UK, who are at risk of “honour” based abuse, female genital mutilation, forced marriage, child marriage, domestic abuse and other forms of violence against women and girls.
  • True Honour: Offers confidential, culturally informed one-to-one support to help survivors of honour-based abuse, forced marriage and female genital mutilation feel safe, understood and empowered.   • Savera UK: A charity working to end honour-based abuse (HBA) and harmful practices by offering direct one-to-one support, wellbeing programmes and a helpline. Individuals can self-refer by completing an online form or by calling 0800 107 0726 (Monday – Friday, 10am-4pm).
