The University of Greenwich is committed to supporting all staff and students who are directly or indirectly affected by the associated symptoms of the menopause. The symptoms associated with the perimenopause (the time leading up to the menopause) and the menopause can have a significant impact on some individuals in their everyday lives, and subsequently this affects people’s working lives too.

Award-winning Maureen Montague started the conversation about menopause three years ago. UoG celebrated World Menopause Day for the first time in 2021 and we have been doing work on this subject ever since.  We are committed to becoming a Menopause Friendly Employer which means breaking the taboo on menopause, to normalise the conversation about menopause in the form of menopause awareness, guidance and support.

There are 26 Menopause Champions from across the University that colleagues, and line managers can go to for support. Menopause Champions can:
  • Support colleagues
  • Help them to have conversations with their line managers on any support they need
  • Signpost colleagues to resources/support
  • Help them to promote menopause awareness, training and initiatives
  • Spread awareness of menopause throughout the organisation

We are proud of the progress we are making, and we want to keep the conversation going. You can find more information about training and events here: https://www.gre.ac.uk/internal/menopause

18 October is World Menopause Day, and October is Menopause Awareness Month. The theme this year for World Menopause Day is Cardiovascular Disease. To find out more about planned activities and events, click here.
